some new weavings

I love the online class I am taking with Jude Hill.  I have already published a picture of  the square deal--now I want to add 2 more weavings.  Whispering trees started out as my first boro weaving (boros are patched and recycled cloths).  I then did some embroidery and added a lot of little trees.  I might use it as a Christmas decoration.  The Monster weaving began as a blue weaving when I noticed that  the material I had cut up for the moons on my Square Deal weaving looked like a tail.  I also cut up a batik pattern that was supposed to be pine cones and used it for the tree.
I am going to Kansas City this weekend, and will photograph Caroline with her comforter.

Caroline's comforterer

I have finished tying Caroline's comforter.  She selected the picture of her in the snow.  I will mail it to her this week.

baby quilts

I made these 2 baby quilts for my son's children.  Their mother wanted it to harmonize with their room (chocolate) and with some letters on it. I found pink fabric with letters, and did the cow jumped over the moon.  Their house is pictured on it, as well as their 2 dogs, Murphy with one eye and Maggie of the long tongue.
When Sean came along the request was for Eric Carle illustrations.

Square Deal finished

I am taking a class from Jude Hill, that uses weaving.  I wove the base, and quilted it with embroidery floss.  the mountains were leftovers from a strip piecing project.

Mimi: an art quilt made about my mother

I took a  course with Pamela Allen at Asilomar, and made a self portrait (the one I use as my picture on this blog)  I decided I wanted to do a series, featuring my mother and grandmother.  The first one I finished is entitled Mimi, about my mother Constance Eagan Mason, called by her grandchildren Mimi.  Mimi had white hair, and very blue eyes.  She sewed a lot for my and my sister, as well as herself.  I made her a charm bracelet of sewing patterns.  She is holding a purse that she made to go with one of her outfits sewed for a cruise.  She also holds one of her curlers--I have a whole boxful.  Her earrings were made by my Dad when he was recovering from surgery.  The locket contains his college graduation picture.  I put a seascape on the quilt because they retired to Florida.  It has some tiny shells that I picked up on the beach.

art of silliness

Here is my first worksheet for the class.  Hope my drawing gets better!
